IPAD Mini Released

Last night the IPAD Mini was released in San Jose, California!!!!!

The IPAD mini comes in the same colors as its predecessor's Black/White and will be officially released in the shops next week. The technical specs that were leaked before the release of the new IPAD were pretty much spot on and from the specs it looks like it will perform like or better than the IPAD 2 as it has pretty much the same hardware. So lets have a look at the specs of the new IPAD

The IPAD mini comes as standard with Wi-Fi  and they will also be releasing a model with Cellular functionality

    • LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5 ,13, 25)

Display

Unlike the new IPAD that was also released last night the IPAD Mini does not come equipped with the latest retina display but matches the screen that was used in the IPAD 2 which still gives a good picture

  • 7.9-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS Technology
  • 1024x768 resolution at 163 ppi (pixel per inch)
  • Fingerprint resistant oleo-phobic coating

Processor Chip

The Chip that comes with the IPAD mini is also not their latest and greatest chip the A6 but the Dual-Core A5 which was also used in the IPAD 2 this chip still performs well and should be able to deal with the most CPU intensive apps.

Cameras

The IPAD mini comes equipped with 2 cameras the facetime camera and the isight camera which both are capable of HD video and face detection

FaceTime HD camera

  • 1.2MP Photos
  • 720p HD video
  • FaceTime video calling over Wi-Fi or cellular
  • Face Detection
  • Backside illumination

iSight camera

  • 5MP photos
  • Autofocus
  • Face Detection
  • Backside illumination
  • Five-elements lens
  • Hybrid IR filter
  • f/2.4 aperture

Video Recording

  • Tap to focus while recording
  • Video stabilization
  • Face Detection
  • Backside illumination

SIM Card

The mini is not compatible with the existing micro-SIM cards so unfortunately if you were intending on using your existing card you will be disappointed as Apple have bought out a brand new card the Nano-SIM which i believe will be available in all good phone shops.

Connector

The mini also comes with the new lightning connector that was released with the iphone 5 which is used to charge the device. The lightning adapter can also be used to connect up to your TV and play movies or music through the TV using Lightning Digital AV Adapter and Lightning to VGA Adapter but these adapters unfortunately are sold separately.

Battery Life

The battery inside the mini is much like the other IPAD's and the battery life is pretty simular to the others that being said 10 hours of surfing the web is pretty good

  • Up to 10 hours surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music
  • Up to 9 hours of surfing the web using cellular data network
  • Charging via power adapter or USB to computer system

So that seems about all that new with the IPAD mini some good new features but a slightly disappointing price tag compared with the other 7inch tablet players in the market

What do you think of the new IPAD mini??????
